Workshop "Application of protein classification tools, Cn3D and CDTree"

Cynthia Liebert

Computer workshop to demonstrate the use of the recently published computer program, CDTree, which is designed to assist in the classification of protein sequence data and also the accompanying sequence alignment editor, Cn3D, used in the curation of the Conserved Domain Database (CDD) (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Structure/cdd/cdd.shtml).

Targeted audience:
faculty members, postdoctoral research fellows and senior graduate students working in the field of biological sciences with an interest in learning bioinformatics.

Duration of course: three hours

Course will include demonstrations of the use of Cn3D with emphasis on newly released CDTree.

Topics included in this course:
Demonstration of the use of these applications to support the study of the molecular evolution of protein domain families, discovery of orthology groups, discovery of novel sub-family domains, and the assignment of predicted functional residues.

Course schedule: 1:00pm - 4:00 pm, Nov 2, 2006

Location: C-128, Life Sciences Building

A registration site has been set up at http://www.bioinformatics.uga.edu/cn3dreg.php. Because of the limited number of seats and computers in the lecture room, we will be able to register only 30 students. If we have more people registered than 30, we will use the following rules to select students: (a) priorities will be given first to faculty members, then postdocs and then graduate students; and (b) within each priority category, we will follow the rule "first-in, first-served".
