Faculty Position in Systems Biology

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the Institute of Bioinformatics invites applications for a faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the general area of systems biology and bioinformatics. Applications received by January 31, 2008 are assured full consideration; however applications may be accepted until the position is filled. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in one of the related areas. Preference will be given to candidates who have received excellent training in both the biological and computational sciences and who possess strong computational and experimental skills to conduct systems biology research. All applicants are expected to have strong publications and research experience in the areas of biological science and computing. Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration is an important asset. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong extramurally funded research program and contribute to teaching in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the Institute of Bioinformatics.

Applicants should electronically submit their applications, consisting of a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and a description of research and teaching interests to rita@bmb.uga.edu. To receive full consideration, applicants should arrange to have at least three letters of reference sent to: Systems Biology Faculty Search Committee Chair, c/o Ms. Rita Hutchins, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Georgia, Life Sciences Building, 120 Green Street, Athens, GA 30602-7229. Electronic letters of recommendation on letterhead are acceptable.

The Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, its many units, and the University of Georgia are committed to increasing the diversity of its faculty and students, and sustaining a work and learning environment that is inclusive. The University is an EEO/AA institution.

Postdoctoral Positions

Two postdoctoral positions in comparative genomics and cancer genomics are immediately available, focusing on the following area:

  • bio-computational analyses of large data set, including mammalian genome comparison, cancer genome and gene analyses, micro-array data analyses, and other data mining.? The candidate should have a Ph.D. in bioinformatics, statistics, computer science, genetics, or other biological sciences.? Strong ability in computer programming is required.? Experience in Monte Carlo simulations is a plus;

  • experimental analyses of cancer genes and genomes.? Experiences in gene expression, cell culture, and/or animal models are required.? The candidate should have a Ph.D. in genetics, cell biology, biochemistry, or other biological sciences.

Interested candidates should send electronically an updated CV to Dr. Shaying Zhao (szhao@bmb.uga.edu), Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Institute of Bioinformatics, University of Georgia, Athens, GA 30602.?
